A 27-year-old man has been charged with assaulting a woman and a police officer during an alleged carjacking in Lake Macquarie overnight.
Police say a 21-year-old woman was delivering a pizza in Mount Hutton around 7:30 pm, when she came across a man standing in the middle on Tennent Road.
The man jumped inside her car and demanded she drive him to Warners Bay.
When she tried to escape, the man allegedly grabbed her by the throat until members of the public came to her aid.
A police officer also suffered a leg injury after the man reportedly resisted arrest.
The man has been refused bail to front Newcastle Local Court today.
Meantime, police are appealing for information on the alleged armed robbery of a 17-year-old pizza driver in Tuggerah Lakes last night.
Anyone with information is urged to come forward.
