There’s been another reported case of meningococcal disease in the Hunter this year.
Hunter New England Health says an elderly man has been taken to hospital in a serious condition.
It’s understood this is the fourth case of meningococcal disease in the region this year.
In one case, a man died at the John Hunter Hospital back in May.
Symptoms of the potentially deadly illness include fever, headache, neck and joint pain, nausea, abdominal pain and a red-purple rash.
