Police have arrested and charged a man over a carjacking and a break and enter in Newcastle overnight.
The man, believed to be a 32-year-old, allegedly threw an object at a passing car on Darby Street at about 8:20pm.
He ran off, but the male driver gave chase on foot.
The offender eventually backtracked, pulled the female passenger out of the mercedes and drove off.
During the pursuit, he also dropped a number of handbags which were linked to an earlier break and enter on the same street.
The man’s been charged with unlawfully taking a vehicle, and break and enter.
He was refused bail and will front court later today.
