We’re being encouraged to register as an organ donor as donate life week gets underway this week.
Latest figures show nearly 73,000 Newcastle locals are currently listed as organ donors, which makes up around half of our eligible population.
But with roughly 1750 people currently on the organ transplant list, the urgent call has gone out for more of us to join up.
Anyone aged over 16 can register to donate their organs.
