A twenty metre safety precaution zone has been set up around a vehicle containing a device emitting radiation at Adamstown.
The car was stolen and torched on a golf course in King street just after 2 am this morning.
The owner of the vehicle alerted authorities to a moisture gauge containing a radiation source after they discovered what had happened.
Specialist Fire Crews who conducted initial assessments at the scene, discovered the device was emitting low levels of radiation, but further investigations revealed no dangerous emissions.
Fire crews are now working with the Environmental Protection Authority to move the vehicle to a safe location where the device will be removed in an isolated area.
There is no threat to public safety.
