Hunter motorists will have to contend with widespread disruption across the local road network for the next two weeks when a major maintenance blitz kicks off tonight.
In a bid to increase grip in wet condition, shot blasting will be conducted on the road surface at more than a dozen locations across Newcastle, Lake Macquarie and Port Stephens.
Work will be carried out each night until September 16 between 7pm and 4.30am, prompting lane closures, portal traffic lights and reduced 40-kay speed limits.
In Lake Macquarie, streets in Warners Bay, Toronto and Morrisset will be affected, while at Port Stephens, only two roads at Raymond Terrace and Heatherbrae will be impacted.
Work will be widespread in Newcastle, with locations at Taro, Mayfield, Waratah, New Lambton, Newcastle West, Merewether, Wallsend and Jesmond all set for blasting.
