Two men had a lucky escape after their boat sank in Lake Macquarie last night.
The fishermen – aged 41 and 32 – were about 500 meters north of Marks Point Marina when their tinny capsized around 11 o’clock.
Neither of them were wearing life jackets, and the pair were left clinging to the overturned boat which was slowly sinking.
From the water they managed to make a life-saving call to Triple 0 and hold on until help came to the rescue.
Police officers dispatched to the scene were able to commandeer a jet ski and two life jackets from a neighbour, locating the stricken fishermen.
The duo were given life jackets to help them stay afloat until another neighbour came out in their own boat and assisted the two men safely back to shore.
