Business owners in Newcastle’s CBD can now apply for financial assistance to help minimise the disruption caused by the construction of the light rail network.
A new program has been established by Newcastle Now in conjunction with Newcastle Council, where businesses could receive up to $5,000 through a special rate rebate or other forms of assistance.
Eligible businesses will be required to provide evidence of the construction’s impact as part of the assessment process.
They’re looking to help businesses who are located on the rail line or in surrounding streets, have operated in the area for at least 12 months prior to construction, and have seen a 20% or greater downturn in profitability or turnover.
Expressions of interest are being accepted from today.
Applications are being accepted through the website at www.newcastlenow.org.au/businesssupport or by phoning Newcastle Now on (02) 4929 4644.
