Maitland’s Number One Sportsground is set to play host to another trial match, this time for the A-League.
The Newcastle Jets and the Central Coast Mariners will be headed up the Valley for the pre-season match-up on the 25th of August.
Mayor of Maitland, Loretta Baker says she’s excited to have secured the match, and that it’s not just football fans who will reap the benefits.
“Fortunately our Number One oval sits basically on our High Street so it’s right in the middle of our CBD, not even a two minute walk to the art gallery and our main street so it’ll have a much wider benefit for Maitland,” she says.
This event follows the NRL trial match between the Knights and the Eels earlier this year, and the Mayor says the facility could be used for other events in the future as well.
“We’re thinking that we could probably have more than sport in that facility as well,” she says.
“We could really put it to good use,” says Ms Baker.
